Are you a Domestic Engineer?

“So what do YOU do?” the career-woman asks the stay-at-home mom… its a leading question, but you know your answer won't take your conversation anywhere. She just can't or won't relate to "I'm a Mom" or "I'm a homemaker", but does that answer even do the job justice? After all, Ms. Career Woman has a padded resume she loves to talk about.

So what can you say? She didn’t ask for a novel, and your experience does include work as a Business Consultant, Dispute Resolution Specialist, Child Psychologist, Upholstry Technician, Full service Laundress, French Maid, Inventory Specialist, Document Control Manager, Interior Designer, Office Clerk, Data Entry Technician, Building Maintenance Technician, Childcare Professional, Business Consultant, Nurses Aid, Veterinarian, Gardener, Taxi Driver, Food Preparation Expert, Beautician and Beauty Consultant, Teacher, Landscape Architect, Plumber, Purchasing Agent, and Caretaker.

Perhaps your career path is better described as a "Domestic Engineer"? Not domesticated, but definitely using scientific knowledge to solve practical household problems! A structural engineer solves structural problems, an electrical engineer solves electrical problems, and, if you solve DOMESTIC problems.... well, you can do the math!

So that's what I'll blog about... quantitative solutions to common domestic engineering problems...
